Wing Chun Academy of Thailand
ABOUT WCATS
In 1999, I wrote, "If you came to Thailand looking for an
institution or an organization called the Wing Chun Academy of Thailand
(Siam), or Wcats, you will, to your dismay, find none. This is because
Wcats is a cyber shop and workshop for Wing Chun, based in Thailand,
where the writer, Wing Chun artist and web-designer, (yours truly)
Danny Yinsheng Xuan, presently resides. (Now that the "cat" is out of
the bag, I will address myself in the first person rather than the
third.) Albeit that the web design appears grandiose (pardon my
modesty), my intention is not to pass Wcats as anything else than what
it really is ... a one-man show. I certainly hope it will develop into
something larger than what it is now. However, like every project and
dream, it can only succeed through a magical combination of hard work,
follow up, right product, right time, right market, right nitch, right
luck, etc. If everyone knew the combination, we'd all be riding in the
seventh heaven. The reality is that there are more failures than
success stories. However, let's not look down upon those who have
failed, but praise them for having had a dream and tried their best to
realize it.
My objective for Wcats is to introduce Wing Chun to those who know
nothing of it. By the same token, I would like to cast a light on Wing
Chun that would reveal it from a different perspective than a WC
practitioner has experienced before. I would also like to provide
quality Wing Chun training equipment to enhance the skills of veteran WC
artists. Last but not least, I would like to promote Wing Chun through
comics. Well, if what I do subsidizes my objectives and interests...
GREAT! That just about wraps up About Wcats."
It's now July 2007; would you believe that the hard work has finally
paid off, and that I now actually have a martial arts school that
everyone would love to own. Oh no ... it didn't come from the money I
earned from my website, but from sheer work from other fields; many jobs
and many hours. The website only cost me money to maintain; however, I
have no regrets, as I have met many fine fellow Wing Chun brothers
through it.
I have now built a cultural and martial arts school in a lovely town in
China, called Lijiang (Beautiful River). It is my father's birthplace.
It is located in southwest China, in the province of Yunnan (South of
the Clouds). I chose this location for several reasons. First, it's
the place of my roots. Second, it is the only town left in China that
has any resemblance to the old China that one can imagine. It has
Chinese-Style wooden homes rather than the Chinese version of Western
concrete homes. It has cobblestone roads instead of tar and concrete.
Local people dress in their own ethnic clothes rather than Chinese
version of Western fashion. They dress that way to preserve their
culture rather than for tourism. Third, it is inhabited by many ethnic
groups, thus making it a culturally interesting place to visit. Fourth,
it is scenically fantastic. It located in a valley surrounded by
mountains, rivers and lakes. It is 3,000 meters (10,000 ft) above sea
level. The air is fresh and clean. Fifth, it is surrounded by other
towns that are just as interesting and fascinating. There are many more
reasons; however, the bottom line is that it is a perfect setting for a
martial arts school.
I've built the Academy on top of a hill in Lijiang town. It has a 360
degree panoramic view of the town. I have built the Academy with the
intention of not only teaching martial arts, but cultural arts as well.
Students will learn more than what they came for. They will have the
experience of their life time.
I've built another website for the school. Online, it is called
Three-Dimensional Martial Arts Academy. On location, it is named
Lijiang Cultural and Martial Arts Academy. To learn more about the
Academy, go to http://3dmaa.com.
For those who think I haven't revealed enough of Wcats, this is the
take: To speak more of Wcats is to speak more of me (being that it is a
one-man show). So, for those who want more, and are interested in my
background, click NEXT to go to
